Be Unstoppable!

It's a (belated) #FoodieFriday post! Which means I gotta share something delicious and nutritious. So why not stay on the Shakeology train? Haha

A couple posts ago, I told you all about Shakeology and why I'm obsessed with it in "What is Shakeology? AND How is it different?". So, it only seems appropriate that I would do a Shakeology recipe share!

In that last post I told you all about the health benefits of shakeology and why it is beneficial to you from a health standpoint, and worth the cost you pay (which let's be real, is only the price of a latte! Prioritize!)

Today, I'm going to get into the fun part, and my favorite thing about Shakeology - the taste!

Shakeology comes in 4 different flavors - Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry and Greenberry! Though I definitely have my personal preferences, I've tried them all and they're ALL really tasty on their own with just some water/milk and ice!

But today, I want to share with you how we can get a little crazy with our Shakeology recipes, and have a whole lot of fun!

So let's go...flavor by flavor!

Probably my first Shakeology selfie for my challenge group! Enjoying the Supa Tropical!
Greenberry!

The absolute first Shakeology flavor I tried!! I don't know what inspired me. Maybe I just wanted to get a little crazy! Or probably because it was the flavor my coach was drinking when I signed up!

It's delicious! It tastes like a green tea frappucino in my opinion! Nom!

Greenberry definitely isn't for everyone, but I definitely have some AWESOME recipes that you should try!

Greenberry Coffee Kickstart
-1C of drip Coffee (at whatever strength you desire)-1/2 C of nut milk (I like Almond and coconut milk)-Handful of chopped spinach (You can use other greens if you wish, but I like spinach because it's softer and it blends well)-1 scoop of Greenberry Shakeology-1 tsp of PB2 powdered peanut butter-7-8 large ice cubesBlend and Enjoy!

Supa Tropical! ShakeO
-1C of almond/coconut blend
-1C of water
-1C of frozen mixed fruit (mine contained mangos, strawberries, pineapple and grapes)
-1 scoop of Greenberry Shakeology

FAVORITE! Or at least one of them! This CHAI TEA LATTE SHAKEOLOGY is a winner!
Vanilla!
Vanilla is an awesome shakeology flavor to start with! It's super versatile and really yummy! I have a ton of fun jazzing it up!

Here are some of my Vanilla absolute favorites!

**For a lot of these I make tea or some other hot drink. What I will usually do is I will heat the water and let the tea steep and then cool make down during the time that I'm working out! That way the tea is nice and strong and has cooled before I mix it into my Shakeology!**

Pumpkin Spice Latte Shakeology:
-12 oz of STRONG Pumpkin Spice tea-**Optional coffee if desired - I don't think this one needs it**-4-8 oz of almond milk-Scoop of VANILLA Shakeology
-4-8 oz of almond milk
-Scoop of VANILLA Shakeology
-Ice (as much as preferred) and blend

Chai Tea Latte Shakeology**One of my absolute favorites!!**
-12 oz of STRONG Chai Tea
-**Optional coffee if desired - I don't think this one needs it**
-4-8 oz of almond milk

Apple Pie Shakeology
-1C Apple Cider (make hot and let cool)

-4 ice cubes (or ice to taste)
BLEND AND ENJOY THE DELICIOUSNESS

Strawberry Cheesecake Shakeology
-1/2C  almond milk

-1 read 21 day fix container of greek yogurt
-1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
- Ice if desired
BLEND AND ENJOYE!

Just a little recipe collage with some of my favorite recipes!
CHOCOLATE!
Oh chocolate chocolate chocolate....yummmmmmmmm

I'm telling you right now, I might be a little bit biased on this one. I'm a chocolate girl. I spend most of my time swapping between chocolate and vanilla because I love the versatility. But in my heart, I'll always be a chocolate lover. And these recipes are SUCH amazing treats! I legitimately feel like I'm cheating on my nutrition when I have one! They're THAT GOOD!

Peppermint Mocha Shakeology: **FAVORITE**
-1C STRONG Peppermint Tea
-1C almond milk or drip coffee (cooled) or both half and half
-1 scoop Chocolate Shakeology
-Ice to taste
BLEND!

Cinnamon Roll Shakeology: **FAVORITE**

BLEND & ENJOY!

Mocha Frappuccino ShakeO:
-0.75C Almond Milk (or Almond-Coconut Milk Blend)

Strawberry!
Similarly to greenberry, I found this one to be less versatile but still delicious! I don't have as many recipes with this one, but that's definitely not to say it's not yummy!

Berry Delicious ShakeO:
-1.5C of almond milk
-Handful of chopped greens
-1 scoop of Strawberry Shakeology
-a handful of frozen mixed berries - add more of these for a thicker, fruitier shake
-2-3 large ice cubes
Blend and Enjoy!

Tropical Strawberry ShakeO:
-1-2C of almond milk or WATER
-1 scoop Strawberry Shakeology
-1 frozen banana
-Ice to taste
BLEND! and Enjoy the simple yumminess!

I hope you got some fun recipes out of this! I have a blast making and thinking up NEW shakeology recipes! What's your favorite? If you've got a good one that I just HAVE to try, post below! I would love to check it out!

Have an awesome day!

For today's #TastyTuesday...I want to tell you about one of my favorite things EVER...

Shakeology!

If you know a Beachbody coach, you know that we talk about Shakeology a lot. That's probably because we're all equally obsessed with it!

What you may not know is what this product is and why we're all SO obsessed...

Well, let me break it down for you, first by describing to you the diet cycle and how it usually works.

When you first start out on a diet, you're super stoked about it right? You're gung-ho! You've got your recipe catalog down, you know your macros and your calorie intake and you're stoked about the results you're going to see and where this new you is going to take you.

Two weeks later, you may see yourself starting to struggle. You may have seen results, which you're pumped about. But enthusiasm can't quite save you from the struggles you're feeling! You're craving things. Things that you can't have on your diet. And you're craving those things badly. But you decided to stick with it....

...Until you don't. Until you give into your cravings and you feel like a failure...

Does this sound familiar? Trust me - I'm not trying to be a debby downer! I am, however, trying to be realistic.

It's a vicious cycle, but I can tell you from personal experience of it's accuracy! Even when I was on Weight Watchers my success and my dedication would wax and wane in a pattern eerily similar to this exactly timeline.

But recently I have come to better understand why this happens.

It's called nutrient deficiency.

The problem with most conventional diet plans, including popular ones like Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, and the DASH diet, is this...

Despite the fact that they may provide you with results, the drastic reduction in calories result in a insufficient nutrient intake, leaving you with cravings galore! That's why your body has cravings, and revolts against the carefully planned out diet you've been utilizing! It's the body's way of telling you that you're not giving it enough of what it needs!

In a 2010 journal article by Jayson B. Calton in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, many of these popular diet plans were analyzed. He took suggested daily menus from Atkins, Weight Watchers, South Beach, and the DASH Diet, and analyzed them not only for total calories, but also for sufficiency and deficiency in 27 essential micronutrients. And guess what he found?

All 4 diet plans left you micronutrient deficient! Meaning, that you weren't getting the sufficient quantities of all 27 essential micronutrients in that daily plan. And, BONUS, to GET 100% nutrient sufficiency on these diets, you needed to eat 18,000 CALORIES A DAY OR MORE!!

That's how difficult it is to get 100% of your daily nutrients...

I know what you're thinking now - "Okay, so nutrient deficiency is a problem. But, why should I care?"

Here's why...just some health statistics from Calton (2010):
  • America's overweight/obesity epidemic affects more than two out of three adults and 15% of children
    • More than 34% of adults are obese
    • Approximately 25% of American adults are on a diet at a given time
  • Micronutrient deficient subjects had an 80.8% increase in likelihood of being overweight or obese
So, where does Shakeology come into play?

All of us Beachbody coaches are obsessed with Shakeology, and for good reason!

It's not a protein shake. It's not a weight loss.

It contains protein, yes, and aids in weight loss. But, the biggest reason we all love Shakeology is because this is the most nutrient dense shake I have ever come across on the market!

No joke - Shakeology contains a higher percent daily value of some nutrients in one serving than some of those aforementioned diets contain in their entire day's worth of food!

Not only that, but Shakeology contains so many amazing other amazing things, including...
  • Protein and Essential Amino Acids (whey protein & plant based proteins in the Vegan formulations), which help build muscle, fill you up and reduce food cravings
  • Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Digestive Enzymes which help you body with digestion, regularity, and nutrient absorption
    • Prebiotics help support and promote the healthy, "good bacteria" that reside in your digestive tract
    • Probiotics are those strains of "good bacteria" that promote the digestion and absorption of foods.
    • Digestive enzymes promote the breakdown of food!
  • Adaptogens which help promote immune and hormonal balance, a strong immune system, increase energy, and protect from stress
  • Antioxidants, phytonutrients and other superfoods which help protect against free radicals, decrease inflammation, and help maintain the immune system
So basically, if you're comparing Shakeology to other shakes...make sure you're comparing the micronutrient and nutritional content...not just the calories, cost, carbs and protein amounts!
Speaking of cost...I'm sure some of you are thinking...

"Well, ya I'd love to try it, but it's soooo expensive..."

There's a big difference between something that's just expensive and something that's valuable! Shakeology is valuable, and it is not your basic protein or weight loss shake. It's packed with great, effective superfoods! It works and it's good for you! It's not just about calories and fat and protein...it's about everything else!
Thanks to the lovely Kacia Fitzgerald for this awesome graphic!

And in terms of cost...you may have to make some sacrifices...but let me ask you this, are you willing to do that for the sake of your health?

I could not afford Shakeology when I started with Beachbody. But, I decided the sacrifice was worth it for the sake of staying committed to myself and my health. I cinched up my budget, particularly my grocery budget, and decided to forego my abundant iTunes purchases and morning coffees. At the time, I was in what I affectionately call my hell semester in school...and I was easily spending $5+ on lattes and americanos on a daily basis.

Guess what...

Shakeology is LESS than that. And it's healthier!

If you prioritize your health and make some sacrifices, this will fit into your life and your budget!

There is an investment associated with Shakeology and any of the Beachbody challenge packs - but let me ask you this...how much is your HEALTH, your VITALITY, and your ENJOYMENT of your life worth to you?

Lastly...Shakeology has benefits to me that move beyond just health...
  1. It tastes AMAZING! - It comes in Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, and Greenberry, as well as Vegan Chocolate & Vegan Strawberry! I have SO much fun with recipes trying to make my Shakeology fun and different every day! Keep your eyes peeled for a Shakeology recipe share post comin' atcha soon! (And check out the little preview to the right!)
  2. Just some recipe ideas for ya!
  3.  It's SO CONVENIENT! - My mornings are packed, and I frankly don't have time to SIT and eat cereal or eggs or something like that during the week! I love that Shakeology is not only REALLY easy to make, but I can throw it in my blender bottle and walk around my apartment, do my hair, get dressed...all with my handy dandy shake right in my hand! And if I'm running late, my breakfast can come with me! There is literally NO EXCUSE for me to skip out on my breakfast!
  4. I have MORE ENERGY! I know I mentioned about that adaptogens can help increase energy, but when I started drinking Shakeology, I brushed that "benefit" aside. I NEVER thought that that would be something I'd experience. I mean, I'm from Seattle. I'm a coffee drinker through-and-through. And giving up my morning latte and Americano so that I could afford Shakeology was definitely a hard thing to stomach. But what I found VERY quickly after I started drinking Shakeology was that I don't NEED as much coffee anymore. I have one cup in the morning and on an average day that's it! That's all I need to get through my day! I know...CRAZY talk for a graduate student! But it's the truth! I don't drink as much coffee anymore because I don't need it. My energy levels are more consistent.
  5. Drinking my morning Shakeology makes me feel like I'll always be on track even if I don't have a perfect day!
So that's it!

That's why I think Shakeology is different based on published analysis on micronutrient deficiency in common diet plans, and also because of my experience with Shakeology!

Not only will Shakeology will provide you in one serving the dense dose of nutrition that will help you navigate through the dieting process without feeling deprived, but if you have the same experience I did, you'll find that it's a tasty, convenient, energizing start to your day!

I LOVE this product! I'm obsessed with it! And I have been ever since I started this crazy awesome coaching journey!

If you're interested, try it! There's no risk! Cinch that budget a little tighter, cut some extravagances out of your life! And if you still don't like it, don't worry Beachbody and I will take care of you! Promise! You can find more information by clicking here!

I hope you learned something! I hope I got you excited as I am about this product! In my experience, it is as good as it sounds! And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!

As always, keep working hard! And you will achieve everything you want!

I have referenced before how important it is to have daily routine, which I discuss more in this blog post. But I don't think I've talked about this as much in reference to food!

So today, I want to talk about the importance of establishing a routine with your food. Not only is scheduling time to meal prep super important, which I've discussed in previous blog posts (which you can find here), but it's also important to establish some consistency in patterns in not only when you eat, but what you eat.

I've started to call this my Daily Eats...
If you talk to a bunch of people who are fit, gym rats, or bodybuilders...you'll probably find that these people eat very similar things for the most part from day-to-day! In fact, most other people tend to do the same...without even meaning to! They don't even notice that they're doing it, but they're day to day is pretty repetitive...

So, this is an example of what I eat day to day! It's very simple!

I start off my morning with a cup of coffee, pre-workout!

Then, about an hour or so later, after my shower, I have my Shakeology for breakfast.

I usually get into work around 8 am. So, I'll have my first snack of the day around 9:30-10 am. That's usually fruit. I've tried having a veggie snack in the morning. I don't like. Vegetables to me just aren't a morning food!

Then, around 11:30-12, I have lunch! Lunch is always a salad for me! Usually it's Kale, but not all the time! I have grown to REALLY love my lunch time salads. Salads are my favorite way to get my vegetables in! And this lunch salad just fits into my day so well.

Then, in the afternoon, around 2-ish, I have my afternoon snack. I love veggies and hummus!! I tend to stick with celery or cucumbers. I prefer cucumbers actually! But, recently the cucumbers haven't been very fresh so I've switched back to celery!

Then - dinner! I usually have dinner around 5pm when I get home from work! This is by far my heartiest meal of the day! And varies the most in my day-to-day eating. My dinner recipes are the things that I feature in my MOTW  and budget MOTW posts! These tend to be things like quinoa mac n' cheese, crock pot chili, etc. I REALLY like my dinner to be a single dish that encompasses all of my food groups! Those are my favorite meals, because they simplify everything for me!

Occasionally, I'll have an evening snack if I'm still hungry! I really like greek yogurt for that because it seems like I'm eating ice cream!! :-) Yummy!

So, that's it for today! Just a simple post, but if I've found anything other than meal prepping to be really effective in my healthy lifestyle journey, it's the consistency I've developed in eating habits!

Have a great week!!

Okay so in the maybe 4 hours since I posted this picture on instagram, I had about four different people ask me for the recipe! So I figured this merited a a blog post!

I LOVE protein pancakes! I've toyed around with a number of recipes and this is my favorite so far! I modified this recipe from one I found on pinterest from Lexi's Clean Kitchen!  I didn't have a lot of her ingredients and I wanted to make it accesible for someone who didn't have a lot of organic ingredients or typical "health" food staples.

So here's my version:

Chocolate Pumpkin Protein Pancakes
-1/3 cup pumpkin puree (original recipe called for homemade but I just used canned pumpkin from the store)
2 tbsp whole-wheat flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1.4 tsp pumpkin spice (if you have it--otherwise I used a few extra shakes of cinnamon, 1 dash of ginger, a big shake of nutmeg because I love nutmeg, and a shake of all spice)
1 heaping scoop of chocolate Shakeology (the original recipe called for vanilla protein powder, but I only had chocolate so I added that instead)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 tbsp honey

My batter turned out REALLY thick actually, so I would suggest thinning it maybe with a little bit of almond milk.  It should spread easily into a circle, when you pour it into the pan (you know--you've made pancakes before).

I usually put about 1/4-1/3 cup of batter into the pan and then top it with chocolate chips! For these I used Nestles dark chocolate chips and put about 8 chocolate chips on top of each pancake!

I'll refine this recipe as I make it more, but I wanted to share now because it's JUST THAT GOOD!!!

Enjoy! :-)

I've been dying to write this review since the day I got 21 day fix! Now, two rounds later, and I'm happy to say that I'm beyond satisfied with this program and how it turned out!

I'm not saying that everything went perfectly and that it was all sunshine and roses, but the results speak for themself!

7 pounds...1" off my waist...1" off my hips. Arm and ab definition like I've never had before!

But, this is a review, so I will tell you what I LOVED, where I struggled, and even what I didn't like! So, here it goes!

Struggles:
Those damn yellow containers....
I really don't  know what else to say. I'm Italian. I like my pasta...and pizza...and garlic bread. And beer. Ya...the yellow containers are really hard for me! I sort of half-assed the food part of the program for the first time through, and didn't really lose a lot of weight. But, pre-challenge group, I really decided that I would fully commit to this the second time around, including the food and that made all the difference in the results. But ya, the yellow ones are definitely the hardest for me.

Also, another struggle for me was getting more creative with my veggies!  I'm very much a salad girl.  That's my favorite way to eat veggies, for sure, but what with only being allowed 1 orange per day, I struggled with how to get my veggies in, because, let's face it, I'm not about to eat a dressing-less salad! So, I had to come up with new strategies for getting my veggies in, since I had to get 3 greens in during the day!  My favorite trick became throwing a hefty handful of chopped spinach into my shakeology for breakfast in the trust me, you can't even taste the spinach once you're done!  Check out my post about green smoothies for tips and recipes ideas!  Then, I would tend to have a big kale salad for lunch. And for my last veggie, I would either have a snack of veggies and hummus (I liked cucumbers, celery or tomatoes), OR I would save up that last veggie for dinner and sautee some veggies into a veggie stir-fry or my favorite Paleo Phad Thai or get another serving of veggies at dinner in one of my many chili recipes!
morning--

Dislikes:
These are actually very few and far between for me because I was so happy with the eating portion of this program, and the workouts definitely delivered on their promises to get me strong and toned! You definitely feel the burn!  The only thing that I maybe didn't like was the fact that there was a workout everyday for 3 weeks, but I think maybe that's part of the deal when you buy a program designed to deliver big results in 3 weeks!
The recipes are my only other complaint. The food book tells you what to eat and gives you some recipes, but I really never used them. I relied a lot on pinterest, the internet, my challenge group girls, and my coach to give me good recipe ideas.

LOVES:
-Those adorbs little containers!! Need I say more? I'm done with 21 day fix now and I still  use them all the time!
- The modifications in literally every workout! You'll probably need them! I definitely did! The side plank in, I think, Dirty 30 I had to modify up until the very last day I did that workout! Yay for progress!
-The workouts. Seriously. Ass kicking at it's finest! Especially cardio fix! That one is a killer! But don't worry, it's a good kind of ass-kicking!
-Autumn. Seriously, I'm a fan of Autumn. I have always been a big Jillian Michaels fan, and you definitely need the tough love like Jillian gives when you're making a big lifestyle change. But what I liked about Autumn is that she's like a more positive version of Jillian Michaels!  She cracks a couple jokes here and there with her workout buds in the videos and really draws you into the fun too! Plus, I love how much much she pushes them! It motivates me too!
-The Challenge group! Seriously, I wouldn't have had the successes I did without my group! That was my first challenge group, and I'd never thought I'd needed one because I always feel like if you're going to make a lifestyle change, you can't really on other people. You need to motivate yourself.  And I still believe that! But, you're going to have off days. You're going to have moments when you don't understand why you're putting yourself through it! And that's when having a team and a coach that are relying on you to commit with them is a GREAT thing!  When you get in moods like that, you remember that you have these people behind you that want you to succeed too, and they want to be motivated by you, and you eventually want to motivate them too!  That's the benefit a challenge group gives you and it is seriously invaluable!

So, that's my 21 Day Fix review! If you're looking for a program that's simple, straight-forward, pushes you hard and tests your dedication, but delivers on it's promises in 21 days, then you should definitely try this program out!

Note: I was drinking Shakeology while on this program! Shakeology is meant to enhance your results by providing your body with the nutrition it needs to refuel and replenish after a tough workout!  If you want to know more, check out my post about Shakeology here!

Message me on Facebook or comment here if you want more information or if you want to try the program!

I've recently gotten obsessed with smoothies! My drinking Shakeology definitely has something to do with it, but it's so nice in the morning instead of making some labor intensive or boring breakfast to just through some good ingredients in a blender and whip yourself up a delicious, portable breakfast! Overall, it takes less time for me to make a smoothie purely because I can bring it with me when I travel to lab in the morning!  Having cereal or a yogurt isn't nearly as convenient, especially when I'm trying to rush out in the morning after my workout!

So, I thought I would share what I've found works really well for me for making my morning smoothie, which I even have on the weekends nowadays!  This post in particular is about making a green smoothie! It can me so much trickier to get that nice, smooth texture once you start adding in greens, like spinach! The first few times I made my smoothies, they tasted great, but there were these unsightly and unappetizing chunks and strings of spinach that did everything but add to my enjoyment of drinking my smoothie! So, below I have compiled a lit of things to know to make a really good smoothie! I've also included a recipe that I stole from my upline Beachbody coach! :-)

Things to Know:
-Get a Blender!  The higher power of blender you have, the better your smoothie will be blended! These usually range from $50-$100 and even as much as $400, with the lower power (but still fully functional) blenders costing more in the range from $30-$70.  So if you're not in the market for a new blender, that is totally fine! You'll just need to do some other things to make your smoothie smooth, which I've highlighted below!
-Liquid component first. This allows for the liquid to form a vortex and pull the other, solid ingredients into it so that they can be better combined.  It's a good idea to do this for both low and high powered blenders, but particularly for low powered blenders!
-Chop up your greens! This is especially important if you don't have a higher powered blender (like me!)
-Add your frozen component last! This might be just ice, or maybe you're using frozen fruit! I personally love frozen bananas to add a little bit of creaminess to your smoothie as well as a subtle, tropical flavor!  This is also a good idea because it pushes down your lighter ingredients, like your greens, closer to the blade so that they'll get better combined!
-Lastly, once you've gotten all your ingredients in, pulse the blender a few times before turning it on all the way. I usually use my ice crush button to do this! This starts to get your other ingredients pulled toward the bottom so that they'll get nice and chopped up instead of pushed away from the blender blade!  Once you've done that, start you blender on LOW and then crank it up to HIGH after a bit to really get those last few chunks of ice and greens blended down smooth!

That's really it! It's super easy! Then throw your shake it a portable container--I love my Shakeology bottle--and voila! You've got a delicious, portable breakfast to start your day off right! :-)

I've included some recipes below (one to start off with, and I plan to add more later!):

Recipes to Try:

Greenberry Coffee Kickstart
-1C of drip Coffee (at whatever strength you desire)
-1/2 C of nut milk (I like Almond and coconut milk)
-Handful of chopped spinach (You can use other greens if you wish, but I like spinach because it's softer and it blends well)
-1 scoop of Greenberry Shakeology
-1 tsp of PB2 powdered peanut butter
-7-8 large ice cubes
Blend and Enjoy!

Berry Delicious ShakeO:
-1.5C of almond milk
-Handful of chopped greens
-1 scoop of Strawberry Shakeology
-a handful of frozen mixed berries - add more of these for a thicker, fruitier shake
-2-3 large ice cubes
Blend and Enjoy!

Other Shakeology/Smoothie Recipes! These ones don't have green but you can totally add greens to them if you desire!

Mocha Frappuccino ShakeO:
-0.75C Almong Milk (I also have been using a delicious Almond-Coconut Milk Blend)
-1C Brewed coffee (refrigerated)
-1 scoop Chocolate Shakeology
-Half a frozen banana *Optional, but adds a great creaminess to your smoothie
-1tsp of PB2 powdered peanut butter* Optional
-3-4 ice cubes
** With the colder weather I have been cutting back on the ice in my smoothie. I only add enough to make it a little bit frothy and not like a full-blown smoothie

Peppermint Mocha Shakeology:
-12 oz of STRONG peppermint tea
-4-6oz of coffee
-a dash of almond milk just to get some creaminess
-Scoop of chocolate shakeology
-4 ice cubes if you desire
Blend and enjoy!

Chai Tea Latte Shakeology
Same idea as the Peppermint Mocha but a little different
-12 oz of STRONG Chai Tea
-**Optional coffee if desired - I don't think this one needs it**
-4-8 oz of almong milk
-Scoop of VANILLA Shakeology
-4 ice cubes
BLEND AND ENJOY THE DELICIOUSNESS

Happy Blending!

Sorry for the late MOTW!  I've had a few oddball weekends! My parents came to visit a couple weeks ago and we went to Niagara falls so I was out of town for a bit and didn't do as much cooking that weekend. We ate out a ton, but I tried to make sure I was getting in lots of fruits and veggies, despite it all!!  It's all about balance after all people! :-D

Isn't it gorgeous?? I highly recommend you check out Niagara Falls if you ever have the chance!
Despite all the eating we'd done, after my parents left and headed home, I found myself with some serious craving for some carbs!  How often do you crave something carb filled and just delicious? Daily would probably be my response. So, after they left, when I was picking out my MOTW recipe to get me through the rest of the week, I stumbled across a gem, which has now become my personal favorite!

Paleo Phad Thai

This was a recipe I found on Chelsea Eats Treats.  I instantly new this guy would be a hit! Why? 1) Phad Thai, 2) Spaghetti Squash, 3) Sriracha, and 4) PHAD THAI!!!!

This recipe was delicious and so easy!  And what makes it so healthy is that you're talking out all of that unnecessary carb and adding in some delicious spaghetti squash in it's place! Delicious!

Literally, all I did was cook up some chicken, cook a spaghetti squash, sautee a bunch of shredded cabbage (I used the store bought cole slaw mix), some green onions (I think I would do more next time), throw everything together and scramble some eggs along with them. The trickiest part was the sauce, which calls for lime juice, rice vinegar, sugar, water, fish sauce (I left this out and it was fine), oil, and red pepper flakes. Then garnish it all with some peanuts. I didn't have any peanuts, so I actually think I would melt some peanut butter into the sauce next time.

I liked to eat mine with a little squirt of sriracha on top! Yum!!

Until next time,

So, I posted this picture on facebook the other day, raving about Shakeology and how much I love it! The result? An outpouring of support and questions from my friends and family! And I figured, who better than to share this with you all?

So first - what is Shakeology?

Shakeology is nutrient-packed meal replacement shake from Beachbody, the company that has come out with kick-ass workout program after kick-ass workout program! Need some examples - P90X, Insanity, 21 day fix, P90X3, T25!! Need I go on? It's not a protein shake, or a supplement! At least, that's not how I think of it!

What's in Shakeology?
Well for the full breakdown, I'll direct you to the Beachbody Shakeology Nutrition Guide! But, essentially, Shakeology is packed full of:

  • Proteins and Essential Amino Acids
  • Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Digestive Enzymes
  • Adaptogens (herbs from harsh climates that help to promote a strong immune system, increase energy, and protect the body from stress!)
  • Antioxidants and phytonutrients (plant-based ingredients)
  • 23 Vitamins and Minerals that your body needs for optimal health
I also wanted to add a nutrition review of Shakeology that I just found looked at this website, called Whole Intentions! This one of the more thorough nutritional reviews I've ever seen on Shakeology and addresses what I feel are a lot of peoples concerns when using Shakeology.

What is my experience with Shakeology?
My experience with Shakeology has been great! I started Shakeology when I started 21 day fix and very quickly noticed, more so than anything else, that I had an increase in my energy level! Shakeology primarily functions as my breakfast, and as such has completely replaced and taken away my need for morning coffee! No more Ms. Don't-Talk-To-Me-Until-I've-Had-My-Coffee! She's gone! Heck, I haven't had any coffee for about a week! That's how good I've felt! And my cravings for junk food and sweets has been reduced considerably (though admittedly I still just flat-out avoid the candy and ice cream aisles at the grocery store!)!

Where can I buy shakeology?
Shakeology is exclusively sold through Beachbody at their shakeology website--shakeology.com. Beachbody doesn't sell through Amazon, though some Beachbody coaches will sell through Amazon, despite contract regulations forbidding them to do so.  I highly suggest that you buy through the Shakeology site to be sure you're getting the product you're paying for! If you want, you can buy it directly from me at my shakeology site! Contact me and I'll give you my direct shakeology link! :-)

How could I possibly afford Shakeology?
This is a big one, and is why I went back in and modified this post.  Shakeology is pricey. This is a big reason why I know a lot of people who are hesitant to pull the trigger and actually go ahead with trying Shakeology.  $130/bag seems steep right.  But, let me put it to you this way.  Shakeology is  meal replacement. It is meant to help you cut back on your grocery bill by providing you with more nutrition in a shake form than you would in a TON of other food!  Also, there are 30 servings in a bag.  So, that comes to $4.33 per serving!  How much do you spend on a cafe lunch every day? Or getting your morning coffee?  If your barista suddenly told you one day that if you gave her $130 she'd cover your morning coffee for the rest of the month, what would you do? You'd probably say no right? Well, it's the same idea! Instead of paying daily for that meal or that coffee, you're paying all at once! And, as I mentioned above, Shakeology may lead to you stopping drinking coffee, like me! And that in and of itself will save you a bundle!

If you're hesitant to try Shakeology, I totally understand! I don't want to force anyone into anything. I merely want to say that this is a great product that I love, and I would love to introduce you to it! If it's not for you, that's totally fine! If you want to try it, that's great! Order a sampler pack for $20! Or better yet, order a bag (and I recommend you order the bag instead of the packets -- more bang for your buck) and if you don't like it, there's a satisfaction guaranteed refund that you're more than entitled to take advantage of!

If you have any other questions - cost, discounts, promotions, benefits, want recipes, or just want more information in general, never hesitate to comment or contact me! :-)
